Company History
Sihl’s roots go back over 500 years to its first mention as an “old paper mill on the Werd” in Zurich. This was followed in 1835 by the founding of the joint-stock company Sihl, after the river of the same name in Zurich, which served as the site for the construction of a mechanical paper mill.
The German plant, Sihl GmbH Dueren, has a tradition of more than 100 years in paper coating. Formerly trading as Renker GmbH, the company and its production plant merged with the Sihl paper mill in 1990. The production was relocated to Düren in 2020.
At the end of 2021, Sihl expanded its business in the USA with the acquisition of Dietzgen Corporation®, which merged with Sihl Inc. in 2022.
Perigon GmbH
In 2021, we founded our joint venture and subsidiary Perigon together with the English technology company Trichord Ltd.
Perigon is the world’s first provider to offer a process with which complex 3D objects can be printed industrially over their entire surface – in brilliant colours, pin sharp and independent of the material. The perfect solution to let consumers design products that make the world around them unique.
Through the acquisition of Trichord Ltd., Sihl has held 100% of the shares in the technology as well as the consumables since June 2023.
