ESG PRINCIPLES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
OUR CERTIFICATES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL & EMPLOYEE PROTECTION
At Sihl, we work every day to create a “grandchild-friendly” future. But what does that mean? Peter Wahsner, CEO of the Sihl Group, gives the answer:
“For us, ‘Enkelfähigkeit’ means creating values with foresight and responsibility that we can pass on to our descendants and that we ourselves live by – not only in a business sense. It is important to us to take responsibility for people and the environment. We see this as a prerequisite for long-term success.
As part of our #sihljourney, we are proud to create values that will withstand cultural, political and technological change. Everyone who wants to contribute is involved, and our customers benefit from an exceptional level of quality and service.”
ESG principles are the organisational basis of our corporate guiding principle “enkelfähig” and important building blocks of our success. “Environmental Social Governance” (ESG) stands for social responsibility in the sense of sustainable business and is the guiding principle of our actions. We include various criteria such as the environment, working conditions, human rights, fair business practices and sustainable procurement.
We want to leave a small CO2 footprint and generate a large part of the energy we need ourselves with our photovoltaic system and combined heat and power plant – highly efficient, emission-free and environmentally friendly. Read more in our leaflet.
We also focus on clean driving and only buy electric vehicles as new company cars. Of course, these also have to be supplied with electricity; this works via a charging infrastructure installed on the company premises.
We are pleased that our measures have been awarded various certificates. This is not only a confirmation of our work, but also a guarantee for our customers of the good quality of our products.
FSC® certification (FSC® C005732)
You’ll find many products featuring the FSC® certification in our catalogues and on our website. This means that our materials are sourced according to the principles and standards for responsible forest management of the Forest Stewardship Council® certification (FSC® certification). This way, our customers can be sure that our products are made from the appropriate raw materials.

TÜV certificates for ISO 14001, ISO 50001 & ISO 9001
Environmental and climate protection play a major role at Sihl. That’s why it is very important to us that we are audited and certified by TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH for our energy and environmental management in accordance with the ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 standards of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
We also comply with the ISO 9001 standard for quality management systems. This standard ensures that our products and services meet customer expectations as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
TÜV certificate for ISO 45001
We want our employees to be able to work safely and healthily in all areas. To ensure this, we are constantly optimising our occupational health and safety management system so that we are certified according to the international DIN ISO 45001 standard, which replaced the OhSAS 18001 standard in 2018.
Seal “Innovative through research”
“Innovative through research” – that’s us at Sihl! We are pleased to have received this research seal from the Stifterverband.
It confirms the success of our research, because since 2014, the Stifterverband has been using this seal to recognise research-based companies for the special responsibility they assume for the state and society.
